TITLE: Director of Worship and Music

POSITION SUMMARY:

This is an opportunity for an exceptional musical and worship leader to join St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. The Director of Worship and Music builds and enhances the worship life of this congregation by teaching people to grow their faith through musical expression and augmenting the music ministry of the congregation through the addition and expansion of music opportunities for all skill/age levels. This professional will work collaboratively with the Pastor, the Director of Contemporary Music, other staff members, and congregants to grow our vibrant ministries, including in-person and on-line services.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Lead the planning and execution of the traditional worship service.

  2. Lead and develop the choir.  Schedule rehearsals.

  3. Lead the selection, direction, and/or coordination of special music for this service.

  4. Lead the recruitment of special vocalists and instrumentalists.

  5. Coordinate the repair and tuning of musical instruments.

  6. Will coordinate our media teams for both services as well as ensure that we have the other necessary ministries coordinated for a great worship experience: i.e. – greeters, ushers, altar-guild, nursery, assisting minister, etc.

  7. Will work with our preschool director to coordinate musical experiences for the children.

  8. Conduct various administrative duties.

  9. Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Lives a life of faith and demonstrates the spirit of Jesus Christ through an energetic, caring, and positive manner.

  • Earned Degree in Music or equivalent degree/experience.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of liturgical practice and the use of music in worship.

  • Demonstrated skill and competency in keyboard performance, particularly organ.

  • Demonstrated experience and competency in directing choirs of all age groups.

  • Demonstrated excellence in collaboration (i.e., clergy, staff members, congregational leaders, and volunteers).

  • Engaging interpersonal skills conducive to motivating volunteers.

  • Demonstrated strength in organizational skills, strongly preferred.

  • Familiarity with copyright law and its application, particularly as it pertains to both in-person and on-line worship settings.

OTHER

  • Position 20-25 hours per week.  Salary commensurate with experience.

  • This position will report to the Pastor.
